Go Au Naturel with These Seven Easy No-makeup Hacks

Let’s go back to 2016, to the time when Alicia Keys decided to ditch her makeup and went on to embrace the no-makeup look. She shared that her epiphany happened while she was writing the lyrics for the song, “When a Girl Can’t Be Herself.” So in one of her photo shoots, the Grammy Award winner embraced her true self and her “flaws.” She felt that at that moment, she was strongest, most empowered, freest, and most beautiful.

Aside from Alicia Keys, a lot of stars have also tried the no-makeup look-singers Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez; actresses JessicaBiel, Jessica Alba,SalmaHayek, SofiaVergara, EvaLongoria; and models Cindy Crawford, HeidiKlum,TyraBanks, and BellaHadid-and posted their au naturel and raw beauty on their Instagram.

While the three elementary steps in caring for your skin are cleansing, toning, and moisturizing, there are other different ways you can try to remain confidently beautiful sans makeup on.

Here are seven easy ways to achieve that beautiful skin:

1. Self-love and acceptance

We’ve all heard that we can only truly love until we learn to love ourselves. This type of love is not the selfish kind, but it’s lovingyourself and accepting yourself-embracing your flaws and imperfections. And once you have that self-love and acceptance, it will radiate naturally, which will result in confidence to face the world.

2. Eating right

Diet is key in achieving beautiful skin. Ever heard of the principle that food can act as medicine? Yes, what you eat can affect your health. When you’re healthy, your skin glows naturally. Make sure that your diet is composed of food that is high in protein (chicken, beans, nuts, and seeds), rich in omega-3 fatty acids (fish such as salmon, mackerel, tuna, herring, and sardines), and rich in fiber (fruits and vegetables).

3. Dumping the junk

While we’re on the subject of eating right to achieve beautiful skin, the next logical step is to avoid anything junk. Anything junk you consume has a profound effect on your body. And it’s not just junk food-burgers, pizza, French fries, chips, donuts, soda-that we’re talking about. Junk includes alcohol and cigarettes that not only harm the body’s vital organs but also affect your overall appearance.

4. Hydration and detoxification with infused water

We learned in biology class that a human adult body is made up of 60% water. And water is as vital as the air we breathe. It is because our body-from the cells, the tissues, to the organs-needs water to function properly. That is why it is important to drink at least eight glasses of water daily to rid our body of toxins. It’s also best to infuse your water with lemon or cucumber slices to aid in detoxifying.

5. Being religious to your skin care regimen

Taking care of your skin involves the basic principle of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. It is important that you wash your face at least twice-in the morning and at night-to rid your face of dirt and pollutants and avoid clogged pores and acne. After gently patting your face dry, the next step is to apply skin whitening toner to minimize the pores and deliver an extra shot of nutrients to your skin.

Find a product that is alcohol-free and has a low pH level, preferably 4 to 5, so that it is safe and suitable for sensitive skin. Finally, moisturize to hydrate and soften your skin. Pick a moisturizer that suits you because its texture will depend on your skin type.

6. Sunscreen

Make sunscreen a part of your year-round skin care routine to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Using sunscreen helps prevent the development of wrinkles and fine lines, as well as prevent dark spots, hyper-pigmentation, and other textural imperfections. It is best to apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before exposure; reapply every two hours.

7. Facial massage

Massaging your face every other day can improve blood circulation. It will result in a face that is brighter, more glowing, maybe more contoured, and less puffy. It will also reduce fine lines and tighten the skin. This practice of massaging the face dates back to 17th-century China, when the elites used jade rollers-a roller-like device with a jade stone at one end-to target specific pressure points in the face. In recent years, jade rollers became a fad on social media due to people’s interest in self-care and jade’s perceived properties that aid in healing and soothing.

Achieving beautiful skin-the kind that’s selfie-worthy sans makeup on-is not rocket science. It can actually be achieved in simple steps. All it takes is having the right attitude, eating the right food, and following the right regimen religiously.
